기독인이 볼만한 웰메이드 뮤지컬 '지저스' 공연중

크리천이 볼만한 잘 만들어진 뮤지컬 '지저스'가 지난달 15일부터 대학로 원패스아트홀에서 공연중이다.
록뮤지컬 ‘지저스’(연출 손남목)는 재미, 가창력, 안무, 연출 다 실력자들이 모여 만들어졌다는 뮤지컬 관계자들의 평가다. 연출자는 수백만이 관람한 국민 연극 ‘보잉보잉’을 기획한 손남목 감독이다. 그는 신약성서 중 마태복음을 토대로, 총 43개의 성경구절을 인용해 만들어진 원작 '가스펠'에 재미와 매력적인 요소들을 추가하여 '지저스'를 각색했다. 예수 그리스도의 일생 중 복음 전파를 소재로 해 십자가를 통한 부활의 의미를 전달하고 있다.
손 감독은 “완전히 달라진 느낌입니다. 비록 200석 소극장이지만, 1000석 공연장과는 색다른 감동과 매력을 느낄 수 있을 겁니다. 배우들 땀방울 하나하나 다 보이는 거리에서 전문적인 공연을 볼 수 있을 거예요. 기독교 소재를 다루면서 이렇게 전문적인 구성원들이 장기간 공연하는 경우가 많지 않은데, 아마 ‘마태복음 이야기를 어떻게 이렇게까지 보여줄 수 있을까’ 많은 분들이 신기하다고 여기시지 않을까 기대하고 있습니다."
그는 이어서 "또 ‘보잉보잉’의 성공 요인이 굉장히 재밌었다는 것이었는데요, 결국 재미있는 작품이 성공한다고 확신을 갖고 있어요. 제가 제일 잘할 수 있는 것이 공연을 재밌게 만드는 거예요. 이 측면이 ‘지저스’에도 연결됩니다. 자신이 있어요. 굉장히 재밌게 만들고 싶었고, 또한 수준이 있는 재미를 원했습니다. 예수님 이야기를 하면서 정제하고 수준을 지킴과 동시에, 최선을 다해 최고의 재미가 있게끔 했습니다. 제가 말하는 ‘재미’란 단순히 웃기다는 말만이 아니라, 감동과 웃음, 공감이 명확하게 들어간 ‘재미’를 말합니다”
손 감독은 “크리스천이 아닌 분들이 쉽게 다가갈 수 있도록 무척 노력했습니다”며 “최대한 현실적이면서 상상력을 더해 성경책을 바로 눈앞에서 보는 느낌을 주고자 했습니다”고 했다. 또 “전체 배우가 60%만 기독교인입니다. 기독교인이 아닌 친구들의 의견을 들으면서 (관객에게) 부담이 될지 안 될지 객관성을 유지하는 데 도움을 많이 받았습니다”고도 덧붙여 말했다.
베이비복스 출신 뮤지컬 배우 간미연은 이번 뮤지컬 출연 소감에 대해 “‘지저스’ 안무가님과 작품을 굉장히 많이 해서 그분 소개로 왔는데, 제목이 ‘지저스’였어요. 제가 주님과 더 가까워지고 싶었습니다”며 “넘버도 좋았고 같이 하는 배우들도 좋아 참여하게 됐네요”고 말했다. 이어 소극장 공연에 대해 “관객과 가까이하는 것에 매력을 느낍니다. 자세히 표현할 수 있고, 같이 호흡하며 디테일한 감정이 오고 가는 게 너무 재밌고 매력 있습니다”고 했다.
비기독교인인 오소현 배우는 “살면서 교회에 10번 정도 가봤는데, 그때마다 말씀이 너무 어렵다는 생각이 컸어요. 솔직하게 공연을 시작하면서 막연했는데 점차 말씀이라는 것이 쉽게 들어오는 것 같고, 왜 말씀을 좋아하는지 조금 이해되는 것 같아요"라고 뮤지컬 참여 소감을 전했다.
